Wilderness Lodge

The 729-room, seven-story resort hotel is steel and concrete construction, yet, the impression of the building is one of log and stone. The weaving of steel and concrete construction with combinations of log structure and log skin was one of the more complex aspects of the project. Authenticity in the detailing of the log connections, the structural rhythms, and scale of materials gives credence to the lodge’s romantic antecedents.

Inspired by the Arts and Crafts Movement, the lodges of this period architecturally unified the elements of the romantic, unspoiled wilderness: harmony with nature; inclusion of wildlife: the mystic nature of the Native American/Indian culture with a rustic, uniquely American cultural style.
